IT’S TIME! From the moment Kristen texted me a handful of sneak peaks from the 2nd annual Motherhood Event, I’ve been anxiously awaiting this blog post to share them with the wider KSP family! Whitney here, Kristen’s assistant, and I’m taking on the blog for this one to share a Motherhood Event first-timer and fellow mom’s POV on these special days from behind the reflector. 😉 As a new addition to KSP this past September, I’m mainly behind-the-scenes so this was only my second time getting to see Kristen in action with her clients, and WOW. It was just as incredible an experience for me as I know it was for her and all of our participating families! Where to even begin….

THE SPACE. Gorgeous, light & airy with huge windows and flowing drapes. Bright even on the rainiest of days – which we experienced first hand on day one, although something you’d never know as an outsider scrolling through the images! We put our muscles to work moving around furniture, art, vases, tables, etc., and eventually created a few photo-worthy scenes (while simultaneously sneaking in a nice little work-out for our biceps – ha!). We put a lot of work and thought into choosing which furniture items to use from the studio and which additional items to bring in, and in the end the setup did not disappoint!

THE VENDORS. The incredibly talented Kerri Herlihy was the icing on the cake for a few mommas who wanted the extra pampering (and convenience!) of getting their hair and make-up done in-studio. It was a fun treat that was made possible by our babysitter extraordinaire Gaby Lueck, who helped keep an eye on & entertain the little ones so our mommas could get that extra special attention in Kerri’s chair! Both of these ladies were so kind, helpful, and attentive, and really played a huge role in having this event go off without a hitch. 

THE CLIENTS. We had the absolute pleasure of working with 7 different families over the span of two days, with children ranging in age from 8 months to 5 years. Every session was so unique, with some requiring more child wrangling than others, but each as enjoyable as the last as everyone’s end goal was the same – beautiful photos of a moment in time with mommas loving on their children and vice versa. The children were super curious and playful, the moms were patient and loving, and all things combined resulted in too many frame-worthy images to count! 

THE PHOTOGRAPHER. As if I didn’t know this already, but seeing her in action first-hand has me confidently telling you that Kristen is the one you want photographing you and your children. Hands down. She’s patient and adaptive and engaging and incredibly positive. Isn’t deterred when a child shapeshifts into a jellyfish, feels like keeping their pearly whites hidden, or simply wants to explore & is constantly on the move. She’s simultaneously able to take their lead while giving great direction, and has the ability to turn any situation deemed stressful by the momma into magic behind the lens, capturing those tender moments we all want to bottle up and hold onto forever. You’ll see what I mean….

THE MAGIC. This event was special. Something different than your usual go-to when outside amongst the trees, toes in the sand along the water, or nestled in your favorite alcove at home. Yummy snacks and drinks were available, soothing music, good company, and some thought-out goodie bags for both the moms and kiddos (thank you Joy Street Kids for the incredibly generous pj donation!). We tried our best to take all of the thought out of it for our clients (besides the wardrobe piece, which everyone nailed!), make it easy, light-hearted, memorable and fun…. In my eyes we succeeded on all fronts!! Now if only we could get the Southie parking situation to open up a little bit more – maybe next year. 😉
