Nantucket Engagement Session | Photography by Kristen Swain

For their Nantucket engagement session, Divya and Phil, a couple for whom the island has become a special and meaningful place over the last few years, wanted photos that beautifully captured not only their love and connection, but the unique details of their favorite vacation destination. Knowing the island well can be a blessing and a curse in some ways, when it comes to planning a photo shoot.  With so many gorgeous locations to choose from, how on earth can you be expected to narrow it down?!  Their desire for multiple locations on the island was one of several reasons why Divya and Phil opted for my Classic Package, which gives us plenty of time for an outfit and location change (and this is the package I most strongly recommend for a Nantucket engagement session).

It’s always fun to work with a couple who hasn’t already nailed down what to wear.  We chatted briefly about tones and styling on our first preparation call, and later Divya sent me photos of dresses she was considering wearing for her late June island engagement session — a perfect time for photos, by the way, if you’re thinking of planning a Nantucket session for next year.  When I saw the Sue Sartor dress Divya was considering, my jaw dropped.  No doubt, that was THE dress for ‘Sconset, one of the main locations these two wanted to feature in their images.  The double bows on this taffeta halter maxi made it a perfect bold, yet soft and feminine, statement piece.  If I were getting married this year, I’d definitely be giving this one a serious look.  The photos that feature the back of Divya’s dress are some of my favorites from this shoot.  I particularly loved posing the couple together at the top of the stairs at Steps Beach as seen above, creating double drama in the image; you’re not sure what you want to focus on more, that DRESS, or that VIEW.  Sigh, so much visual delight.

Divya changed into a Tuckernuck dress for the last portion of our session, which we spent at Brant Point.  This choice was also a no-brainer for me when I was helping her make her styling decisions in advance of her engagement shoot.  Not only was it perfectly pretty and beachy, but Divya’s comment when she sent over a photo of this dress was that it just “feels like me.”  Done and done.  Let’s be honest, she didn’t really need my help with that one.  🙂
